2012-2014
Series of 730 digital illustrations
ChiChiLand Everyday is project I’ve started in the need to find and refresh my own style. For the past decade or so I was a designer working in the interactive and motion platforms. I was always drawn to illustration and arts but never had the chance to explore or experiment since the art school days. Moving to a new city and feeling somewhat alienated, Quba (my husband and creative partner) suggested this project of making and publishing one drawing a day. Looking back now, the project really helped me feel grounded, gave me a creative structure and a path to finding my true style.
The rules were simple:
- Create one square illustration every day (weekends, holidays, all included)
- There was no topic or subject and I only had approximately 1 hour to complete each piece everyday.
- Try new topics and styles, explore and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
The project concluded after 2 years, on September 13, 2014. It’s been a crazy undertaking, a lesson in self-management and a chance to create some really awesome experiments. Although the project was initially Facebook based, now can be fully viewed under the blog section of this site. You can also use the everyday.chichiland.com address to get to it.
