I was commissioned to create a playful holiday alphabet for a project that unfortunately got cancelled. Having completed majority of art direction and illustration already, I decided to wrap the design up regardless – for all of you to see.
The original brief called for a holiday themed art. In the spirit of celebrating diversity and different cultures around the world, I designed Kwanzaabet as a festive, colorful, illustrated alphabet inspired by African art and patterns.
It features a basic set of 26 uppercase letters and a number of alternative designs for selected glyphs and looks great both on screen and in print.

I’ve created the original letterforms working in analogue. Once happy with the form, shape and density of the patterns, I digitized and re-drew them with a vibrant, festive palette.
